The International/National Combined Collection will be taken at all Masses the weekend of May 18 and 19th. Your contribution to the good work of these organizations will give you an opportunity to participate in the mission of the Church locally, nationally, and internationally. Please take the time to read the brochure you will receive from Bishop Jugis, give prayerful thought to your level of participation, and respond with a generous contribution.
Sister Cora Marie is the first African American woman to join the Sisters of Mercy. She addressed an interdemoninational group in Murray Hall on May 6, and spoke about her experiences with racism. She challenged us to use collective power to change the systems and structures that maintain racial inequality. She encouraged everyone to read the pastoral letter produced by the US Catholic Bishops in Nov. 2018, entitled “Open wide our hearts, the enduring call to love.”
The crib project is a parish collection sponsored by the Ladies Guild which supports women in Burke County who choose life for their babies rather than abortion. The crib is on display with paper booties in the church hallway. Select a bootie designating a baby item which you would like to purchase for a baby. Please return your purchased items with the corresponding bootie to the crib by May 19th. The donated items will be taken to the Pregnancy Care Center on May 20. If you have questions, contact Donna Davis at 828-584-8985. Thank you for your generosity.
We ask for your generous response to the second collection which will be taken in all diocesan churches on Easter weekend. This collection is to meet the growing needs of our Seminarian program. We have 36 young men studying for the priesthood in the St. Joseph Seminary in Charlotte, the Pontifical College Josephinum Seminary in Ohio, and the Pontifical North American College in Rome. We look forward to these seminarians beginning their service as priests in the Diocese of Charlotte.
