Burke Council on Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency (BCACD) – Private, non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention and treatment of alcoholism and chemical dependency. Contact: 828-433-1221.

Burke County North Carolina – Official website detailing Burke County’s departments and services (including Department of Social Services, health and senior services).  Contact: 828-439-4340.

Burke County Literacy Council – Services to help adults and children learn how to read, improve their reading skills, or learn English as a second language. Contact: 828-437-7477.

Burke Hospice & Palliative Care – Provides care to people at the end of their life plus support for the family. Contact 828-879-1601.

Burke United Christian Ministries – Aiding families in crisis with food, clothing and financial assistance. Services include a soup kitchen, food pantry, Saved For You Clothing Store, and emergency assistance with rent and utilities. Contact: 828-433-8075.

Foster Care – North Carolina Division of Social Services program that provides temporary living arrangements for children whose parents or another relative cannot take care of them. Contact: 1-877-NCKIDS.

Guardian ad Litem Program – Volunteers are trained to act as a child’s advocate in court cases. Contact 800-982-4041.

Habitat for Humanity of Burke County – works to improve the living conditions of families.  Habitat for Humanity ReStore is open to the public and resells gently used items to raise funds for homebuilding and improvements.  Contact: 828-437-0370.

House of Refuge – provides emergency shelter and support for homeless men who in Burke County.  Contact: 828-433-8921.

Justice for Immigrants – The Catholic campaign for immigration reform.

Morganton Pregnancy Care Center – Provides support to women facing an unplanned pregnancy and helps them understand the alternatives to abortion. Contact: 828-437-4357.

Narcotics Anonymous – Meetings are held at St. Charles Borromeo each Wednesday at 8 PM plus each Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday at 12 Noon.

Options of Burke County – Non-profit advocacy center that provides empowerment services and emergency shelter to victims of domestic violence, assault, and rape.   Hotline: 828-438-9444.
